John Wood

Origin co-founder John Wood has worked in the construction industry for 25 years, starting as a carpenter’s assistant during high school. While studying architecture and economics at the University of Florida, John founded Renaissance Contracting Group and focused on construction projects for Gainesville-area businesses.

In 2002, John founded Amicon Builders Corporation and initially specialized in building ultra-high-end interior construction projects, often with complicated designs and logistics. Under John’s leadership, Amicon Construction grew to become one of Florida’s largest and most active independent general contractors, with a portfolio of projects that included commercial offices, retail outlets, restaurants, and health and education facilities on behalf of Florida’s most recognizable brands.

In 2020, John and long-time business partner AJ Mueller continued on to expand their general contracting services work under a new brand identity, Origin Construction. Under the Origin banner, the duo leads a team of more than 50 employees who provide all facets of general contracting services on behalf of commercial property owners and tenants. From ground-up developments to transformative renovations, Origin is behind some of Florida’s largest and most impactful construction projects. Current and past clients include Viacom, Facebook, Porsche, Pipeline Workspaces, Prada, and more.

As a respected member of the South Florida business community, John is active in multiple philanthropic projects. He has a passion for adventure travel (summiting both Mt. Kilimanjaro and Mt. Rainier), sailing, power boating, the ocean, and architecture. John lives on Miami Beach with his wife and their three children
